New Editions Proving Their Worth

The team has a few new faces this year as management looks to build a team to get back into the playoffs. Some of the new guys are contributing right a way.

Gregory Wilkins (acquired via trade) has been stellar in his first three starts. He is 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 17 innings.

Ronnie Field (FA signing) has been a welcome addition to the bully. Coming in three times to get the save the hard way (3 innings work each time). He currently has no decisions, but sports a 1.00 ERA in 9.0 inning worth of work and is 3-3 in save chances.

Jose Montanez (FA signing) has helped the birds by getting on base in front of the 3-4-5 hitters. With his .391 OBP, he has come across to score 14 times in the first 14 games of the season. No homeruns yet, but he should finish the season with 10-13.

Ted Grimsley (Rule 5) has been hot and cold this year. Could be his youth, he is only 23. Needs to be a bit more selective at the plate and use his speed to turn walks into doubles. This kid could be a steal, if he is able to focus as the season goes on.

Will Carson (FA signing), the 6-time AS and 2-time MVP player has come to the Cards to help out the youth and impart his knowledge of the game. While he will be used exclusively off the bench, his ability to put the ball in play will be very helpful in moments when he is in the line up.

With the help of the new guys, the season has been a success thus far. One can only hope that it continues and the team grows more confident with each win.
