St. Louis Says Good-Bye

There have been trade rumors lately of ownership wanting to move players in an attempt to free up salary and to bring in younger players. Yanick Woodson has been tagged as the big fish in these negotiations. Woodson has been in the Cardinals organization for the past 12 seasons. Making his way up the minors in three short years. Made his ML debut at age 23, finishing the season 9-9 with a perfect 3-3 in save situations. So far, this year he has been his usual self. he is 3-1 in six starts with a 2.37 ERA.

The Cardinals and Portland Showers have been in discussions for the past couple of days. There is talk that St Louis will receive three young players back. An official from the Showers, who requested to not be named, said the deal will include Max Guerrero (ML, LF, 26), Ariel Beltran (AAA, C, 23) and Orlando Cabeza (LoA, P, 23).

2012- Cards Open Season with a Victory!

The Cardinals opened the 2012 season with a victory at home in front of a full house. The team, trying to erase last years mediocre finish, hope this is a sign of things to come.
In a season opening game against their rival Arizona Tuques, the 9-1 victory was a statement to the rest of the division, this year hopes to be different.

Yannick Woodson was back in form after a lackluster 2011 season. Woodson went 7.2 innings, skattering five hits, two walks and 6 stikeouts while allowing one earned run. Another bright spot for the red birds was youngster, Vicente Oliva coming in to the game to get the final four outs, despite giving up four hits.

The offense was lead by Brett Cook, who had great day at the plate. Going 2-3 and driving in three.

If the team can continue this kind of performance all season, they might just make the playoffs again for the first time in over four years. We can only hope.
